The preeminent composer, Philip Glass, wanted to market
eight of his operas to the approximately 2,000 opera
companies worldwide no small task! I proposed
that, like his groundbreaking work, his literature
should have a look and attitude unlike any other literature
of its kind.
In creating a book that would convey the uniqueness
of these extraordinary productions, I collected all
available imagery, edited it, and chose photos that
contained the dramatic essence of each work. Each
was shifted to a striking and unusual range of color,
producing an effect of unparalleled sumptuousness.
Sidney Rappaport, the legendary fine art printer,
took this project on with zeal, creating one of the
outstanding works of his (and my) career.
The new logo refers to the musical notation for a
repeating pattern of notes.
